Well, that was quick! We have concluded another year at Caledonia and bid farewell to another graduating class. As we head into the summer months, I want to wish staff, students, and families a safe and enjoyable break. We are hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year already. Our summer office hours are:
July 4 – 7: 9:00 – 3:00
August 22 – September 2: 8:15 – 3:45
Counsellors will be available from August 29 – September 2 from 9:00 – 3:00 to deal with student timetable changes and general student questions and concerns.
Have a great summer, everyone!
Attached you will find a letter from our Superintendent, Mrs. Katherine McIntosh, as well as an amended school calendar for the 2016-17 school year. The new calendar includes a non-instructional day on Tuesday, September 6th.
Plans are under way to include some flexible time in our weekly timetable to allow students to make some choices as to what areas of their educational program they want to focus on. In the attached document you will find some information that explains what flex time is, and our plans for implementation in the fall. We will be sending home more information prior to the end of the school year for students and parents as our planning continues. We will also be hosting a parent information session early in September for parents interested in learning more about how students will use this time to assist with their learning. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding this initiative, I would welcome a call from you.
Welcome back to all our students and staff! We are fast approaching the end of term 3, and it is hard to believe that there is less than 11 weeks left in regular classes for the school year. Just a reminder that there are some important dates coming up this spring to be aware of:
April 15th – Last day of term 3
April 28th – Parent/teacher night for term 3 report cards
Check out our calendar on the right side of this page for other important dates this spring.
Students interested in the opportunity to earn a $2000.00 entrance scholarship to NWCC in the fall should check out the following link for further information.
The attached document contains information for students regarding Post-Secondary Institution Selection. By logging in to the online registration form, students can be assured that the institutions they select will receive their transcript information electronically. The document contains instructions on how to complete this online registration process. If students have further questions they can see their counsellor.
This Friday, March 11th will be the final day of classes before spring break. Students will return to classes on Tuesday, March 29th. We have been working with our grade 10 and 11 students on course selections for next year. Hopefully your child has shared this information with you, and you have had the opportunity to sign their course selection form. We are hoping to have these forms submitted to the counsellors before the break so that we can begin the process of building a timetable for next year. The staff of Caledonia wish all our students and families a safe and relaxing spring break!
The updated Caledonia course calendar is now on our website. Click on the ‘Student Resources’ top menu and it is the first link underneath that tab. You will find comprehensive information in this document about graduation requirements, course descriptions and other useful information for student course planning.
Above you will find a link to an invitation from North West Community College for students and parents to attend an open house on March 3rd. A tour of their facilities and information regarding programming options for students will be presented at this open house.
Semester two is under way, and students are settling into their new courses. Students who wrote provincial exams in January are reminded that these results will be available on-line at the end of February. Students can log into the student secure website at: https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/ to find out their exam results. All that is needed to log in is an account and the student’s Personal Education Number. If you do not know what your child’s PEN is, you can contact the school.
Report cards for semester one will be sent home with students on Tuesday, February 9th. Attached to these report cards will be some information for parents regarding this year’s Ministry of Education satisfaction survey. Each year, grade 10 and 12 students and parents have the opportunity to give feedback directly to the Ministry on their experiences with public education. You will find log-in information on your child’s report card that will allow you to go to the survey website and provide your viewpoint. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any aspect of your child’s educational program at Caledonia, I would welcome a call from you.
Keith Axelson, Principal.
